Just Get Started

Overcoming Fear and Embracing Full-Time RV Life

I want to share my personal insights on getting started in full-time RV life and how I overcame my fears. It’s an incredible journey filled with freedom, exploration, and endless possibilities. But I know firsthand that it can be intimidating. That’s why I want to talk about how you can conquer your fears (or at least tame them a little) and embrace this adventure with the right mindset.

When I first considered full-time RV life, fear gripped me. The fear of leaving behind the comfortable, the fear of the unknown, and the fear of the challenges that lay ahead. But then, I discovered powerful principles that changed everything. Here’s how I applied them to embark on my RV adventure:

First and foremost, I recognized that fear is a natural response to change. It’s okay to feel scared. Instead of letting fear paralyze me, I accepted it as a sign that I was pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone.

I focused on what I could control. While I couldn’t control every aspect of my RV journey, I could control how I responded to challenges. Responding to challenges became the focus. I regained a sense of empowerment by making sound decisions, adapting to new situations, and staying present. I enjoyed learning new skills that helped me deal with new situations.

Cultivating resilience became a crucial part of my journey. I accepted setbacks as opportunities for growth and learned something from them. It can feel like moving to a large city. You won’t be comfortable until you know your new environment and learn how to get things you want or need.

Practicing gratitude became a daily ritual. In the face of fear and uncertainty, I reminded myself of the freedom and beauty that awaited me on the road. I focused on the positive aspects of my journey, appreciating the experiences and connections I would make along the way.

Lastly, I embraced the impermanence of life. I want to see uncertainties as opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery. I try to savor every moment, understanding the beauty of impermanence. Impermanence is the motivation (“You Only Live Once”) and the biggest barrier to getting started. That’s why many people put in the effort to plan and prepare for their adventures until they have to set foot outside. One thing to keep in mind is that this decision point is the last one before actually going.
